Child dies from COVID-19 at Allegheny General Hospital

Child dies after contracting COVID in Allegheny Children’s Hospital article CHICAGO — A child died Monday from COV-19 in an Allegheny children’s hospital after the child was exposed to a live-antibody virus, the hospital said.

The child died of asymptomatic COVID at the Allegheny Medical Center after he was admitted from the pediatric intensive care unit, the Allegoria-based Allegheny Health System said in a statement.

The Allegheny Child and Family Services said it notified the Department of Children and Families on Sunday that the child had been hospitalized for COVID.

The children’s department was notified, and the facility has since been secured, the statement said.

It did not elaborate.

It is the second child to die at Allegoria Children’s this year.

The first death occurred April 1.

The hospital said it was in contact with the Department, and that it was reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
