Mexico City — A hospital and a children’s hospital in Mexico are on lockdown following an attack that left one child with a life-threatening eye injury, the Mexican government said on Wednesday.
The hospital, in a southern part of the capital, was also locked down.
Two other children were injured by the car, the government said.
“There were several casualties from the attack,” a senior health official said, adding that the children were taken to the Children’s Hospital in Mexico’s central city of Mexico City.
In a statement, the health official identified the child as “Moya.”
The attack occurred on Wednesday afternoon when a car plowed into pedestrians in Mexico city’s Mexican capital, according to a news agency.
The driver fled the scene in a car and was later arrested, the news agency reported.
Authorities are searching for the driver, but did not give further details.
