— A hospital worker was honored Sunday with a citation for saving a patient from an explosion that killed another patient and injured at least 20 people when the explosion rocked the building in a residential neighborhood in Salem, Ore., the hospital said.
The explosion at a residential building in Salem destroyed a large portion of the building’s lobby, a parking garage and a portion of a nearby office building, according to a statement from Salem Hospital.
The hospital did not release the patient’s name or the circumstances surrounding the incident, the hospital’s statement said.
Salem Hospital is an emergency department.
Salem is about an hour southeast of Portland, where the explosion happened.
